February 6, 2010 -- For those looking at sporting headlines Saturday night/Sunday morning, you aren't looking at the previous day's headline. And as much as the Bruins would prefer it to be, this isn't a comic drama featuring Bill Murray in which the team is stuck repeating the same day.
Groundhog's Day has come and passed, yet the Bruins continued Saturday afternoon to blow a two-goal lead, outplay and outshoot their opponent, yet lose in a shootout 3-2 to the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
It was Boston’s 10th straight failure to win, meaning that in today’s matinee at Montreal, the possibility of matching the club’s 1924-25 record for consecutive losses exists. Viewed as an 0-6-4 drought, it’s the Bruins’ longest since they went 0-8-2 in February 1997.
The Bruins also failed to win at home for the ninth game in a row (0-6-3). The franchise record for consecutive home losses is 11 (also from ’24-25); this nine-game crash is the longest since they went 0-5-4 at the Garden in 2003-04.
Boston failed to score more than two goals for the ninth game in a row.
