C's Shine Bright on Opening Night October 27, 2009 -- The new and improved Boston Celtics were on display for the first time this season on Tuesday night and the Professor was very, very impressed. And although the C's didn't beat the Cavs by at least 10 as he had boldly proclaimed, we'll settle for a look at the positives.
Bright Lights
1) Rasheed Wallace - He brought energy on the defensive side of the ball (2 blocks) and showed his versatility, covering O'Neal on the block and Big Z on the perimeter. Add in the big-time 3-pointers that he hit stretching the Cavs D, Wallace had a superb debut in the green-and-white. With Kendrick Perkins (25:42) and Wallace (23:50) receiving nearly equal time, Coach Doc Rivers showed C's fans that Wallace will certainly have a big role this season.
2) Marquis Daniels - The young swingman brought a poised energy off the C's bench, contributing 7 points and a couple of assists in 17 minutes of action. Daniels was also crucial in a second quarter stretch---including a beautiful cross-court swing pass to Eddie House that resulted in a tray--- that allowed the C's to climb back and take the lead. Those who had wondered about what type of player Daniels is, got to see the smooth-stroke and savvy court-vision that make him a solid option coming off the bench.
3) Paul Pierce - At 32 years of age, El Capitan doesn't look like he has lost a step. Efficient as always, Pierce was a model of efficiency scoring 23 points on just 13 shots. Pierce worked his way to the free-throw line 10 times, sinking nine. But most importantly, when his team needed him the most, "the Truth" took the ball in his hands and put a dagger into the NBA's Opening Night host, the Cleveland Cavaliers. |
