Paul Pierce and Marquis Daniels Could Return Against Orlando

February 6, 2010 -- Paul Pierce (left mid-foot sprain) and Marquis Daniels (left thumb surgery) said after practice Saturday they're ready to play Sunday against the Magic. Disregarding his players enthusiasm, Celts' coach Doc Rivers marked them as game-time decisions.

Daniels, who has missed the last 29 games following surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left thumb, went through his first practice with contact on Saturday which should pave the way for his return.

Pierce has missed the past two games after suffering a left mid-foot strain when he collided with Caron Butler diving after a loose ball during the first quarter of Monday's win over the Wizards.

"It's a lot better than it was yesterday," Pierce said. "It's improving. Not quite 100 percent, but it's improving."

Although Rivers was quick to object to his players optimism, history has shown that as a players' coach, Rivers has a difficult time keeping his players off the court when they want to play. Smart money says both players suit up, with Pierce definitely touching the court for extended minutes.
