March 7, 2010 -- For an aging veteran who was nearly dealt before the trading deadline, Ray Allen is playing like he is in his 20's again, leading the Celtics to yet another late victory against the lowly Washington Wizards.
Allen, who led all players with 25 points, drilled a 3-pointer with 17.1 seconds to play that gave the Celtics an 85-83 lead - its first since the first quarter. Just nearly two weeks after laying over for the historically atrocious New Jersey Nets, the Boston Celtics found themselves in hot water against a team that has also had quite a uniquely bad year when considering the loss of star Gilbert Arenas and teammate Jarvaris Crittendon following a gun showdown in the locker room.
But with 35 seconds remaining and a one-point deficit, the C's were given a chance to take the lead following Kevin Garnett timeout. Allen proceeded to do what he does best, dropping a 3-pointer from the corner and giving the Celtics an 85-83 lead. After a Garnett free throw, the Wizards had a chance to tie but Al Thornton's 3-pointer went off the rim at the buzzer.
Thornton scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Andray Blatche added 23 and nine rebounds for Washington. Garnett finished 0 for 7 from the floor but added 10 rebounds while Paul Pierce had 17 points. Newly acquired Celtic Michael Finley did not dress for the game.
