March 3, 2010 -- Eri Yoshida, a female Japenese pitcher that now plays in the states, has gotten help from the legendary knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield. She learned how to throw the knuckleball from watching video of Wakefield and she is actually pretty good. Yoshida was invited to pitch alongside Wakefield and learned some tips and tricks for the knuckleball. She is the first female player to be drafted by baseball.
The 5-foot, 114-pound teenage phenom who throws a sidearm knuckleball began playing last season in the Independent League in Arizona. Until now, no woman had played against men in Japan. A women's professional baseball federation was established in 1950 but it stopped after two seasons.
This week, the Sox extended an invitation to Yoshida to meet her idol, Wakefield. Click here to see the video!!
