Tho' Jets-Pats Come-and-Gone, Jets' Mouths Roll On September 24, 2009 -- Immediately following the Pats-Jets game, those in the media were quick to anoint Darrelle Revis the next Deion Sanders. One week after holding Andre Johnson to four catches for 35 yards, the Jets' Pro-Bowl cornerback held all-time great Randy Moss to four catches for 24 yards.
After the game, while giving credit to Revis, Moss also explained the third-year corner benefited from safety help over-the-top. Revis quickly responded telling those in the media that the Jets had played Cover-1 throughout the first three quarters, meaning there was only one safety in the deep middle, not split safeties.
"I have nothing against Randy Moss," Revis said. "We won. We won and he had four catches for 24 yards. That's just what it is.
"You have to show respect when it's due," he continued. "If it's not your day on Sunday, it's not your day."
Revis may have also benefited from the lack of time Brady had to throw due to Rex Ryan's very efficient schemes. Nevertheless, that didn't stop Revis' outspoken teammate linebacker Bart Scott from chiming in with his opinions on Thursday afternoon.
"I hear the easy copout by Randy Moss, saying that anybody can guard ... that 'I can play cornerback if I had safety help,'" Scott said. "That was a one-on-one jump ball. I think sometimes you've just got to give the man his credit, understand that [Revis] was the better man that day.
"That doesn’t take from the fact that Randy Moss is a great receiver in this league. But give the kid his due. Next time it'll [be] another chance to go out and do it again so [Moss] can't say the same thing.
"[Revis] shut him down. He intimidated him. Randy was coming across that middle real slow. Tell him to man up next time and come across the middle like a man if he wants to be a complete receiver."
Although the Jets may be enjoying talking now, the Pats will have their chance in the rematch between the two teams on November 22nd at 4:15 when the verbally-inclined Jets travel to Foxborough. |
